Wildland Urban Interface Prevention, Preparedness, and Mitigation Fund (WUIPPM)

The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands provides an opportunity for eligible entities to apply for a grant to support projects and activities related to wildfire hazard reduction in high-risk areas within the state where structures and other human development meets, or intermingles with, undeveloped wildland.

Eligible project and activity types include, but are not limited to:

  1. Supporting wildfire hazard reduction; 
  2. Restoration of healthy and resilient forests;
  3. Reduction of wildfire risk to human safety, water resources, and other natural resources in and near Wildland-Urban Interface areas. 

Eligible applicants include: 

  1. Those who have entered into a cooperative agreement as described in Utah Code § 65A-8-203.
  2. Forestry, Fire, and State Lands programs. 
  3. Fire departments may also apply and receive funds on a reimbursement basis; grants may not exceed 10% of the money in the WUIPPM Fund each fiscal year. 

Eligible entities, collaborate with your respective Area Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) Specialist. After making sure the project or activity aligns with the purpose of the WUIPPM Fund, submit an application through your WUI Specialist. Each eligible entity who applies may request a maximum of $1M.

Timeline

Deadlines for applications are December 31st, 2024.
Notification of award will be on or before March 1st, 2025.
Projects must be completed on or before June 30th, 2028.
