SALT LAKE CITY, UT – The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands (FFSL) has been awarded a $300,000 grant from the USDA Forest Service. The funding, provided through the competitive Landscape Scale Restoration program, will be used to restore the Lower Beaver River watershed near Minersville, Utah.
The project will focus on reducing hazardous fuels to mitigate wildfire risk and improving the overall health of the watershed. The project’s objectives include enhancing water quality and restoring wildlife habitats, which contribute to a more resilient and productive landscape.
“This grant is a significant investment in the health of a critical watershed in our state,” said Stan Gurley, Southwest Area Forester for Forestry, Fire and State Lands. “Working with our federal partners, this funding will allow us to proactively address threats like wildfire and invasive species, which ultimately benefits our communities, our wildlife, and our water resources.”
The grant is part of a larger nationwide investment by the Forest Service totaling $7 million to support state and private forestlands. The Landscape Scale Restoration program aims to reduce wildfire risk, increase timber production, and expand rural economies.
