Story Recognized as a National co-champion Big Tree in July of 2008, this tree is a diamond in the rough. Though it is slightly smaller than its partner on the Fishlake National Forest, this large curlleaf mountain mahogany specimen deserves recognition. Located on a steep slope within protected USDA Forest Service land just east of Sandy, this tree overlooks the Salt Lake Valley and has witnessed the growing urban development below. It takes an adventurous explorer to stumble upon this tree; there are no direct trails or landmarks nearby.
